What to expect during an Acupuncture treatment?
Acupuncture treatments begin with a verbal intake as well as taking the pulse and looking at the tongue. This gives information as to which meridians are being affected. Following the intake, the Acupuncture needles are inserted into various areas of the body. Acupuncture needles are typically quite small, they are the same thickness of a cat whisker and 35 Acupuncture needles can fit into 1 hypodermic needle. Often the needling is not even felt. Once the needles are in, the patient typically lays with the needles in for 15-20 minutes. Usually during this time people will fall asleep or go into a half waking state of deep relaxation. During an Acupuncture treatment, the brain synchronizes into Theta waves which are the same brain waves that take place when we are in deep meditation or dreaming in REM sleep.
